Born in 1966, in Düsseldorf, Oliver Sieber’s work usually takes the form of a series. The subject of identity, individuality and the phenomenon of young people and their subcultures fascinate him. This interest has led to the many series—SkinsModsTeds, Character Thieves, J_Subs and Imaginary Club. Over the past few years exhibitions of his work have been held at, among others, the Folkwang Museum Essen, Photomuseum Braunsch- weig, the Photographers Gallery London, the Photographische Sammlung SK/Stiftung Kultur in Cologne, the National Museum of Photography in Copenhagen, Festival de Mode & de Photog- raphie in Hyères, National Gallery of Kosovo, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Fondation d’entreprise Hermès Bern, Museum Kunspalast Düsseldorf, Caso Osaka and Mocp Chicago.
Sieber runs an independent publishing project “Boehm- kobayashi” together with Katja Stuke where they have published a number of their own books. The latest is based on his work Imaginary Club, which was awarded the Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation NY Photo book Prize in 2014. Sieber currently lives in Düsseldorf.
